Oh noes...

When I wrote the last post, little did I know the dilemma that would be facing me. Tonight at 9pm, Masterpiece Theater kicks off its Jane Austen-a-thon with a new version of Persuasion. At the same time VH1 is premiering Rock of Love 2, featuring the increasingly creepy Bret Michaels. It's the highest of highbrow and the lowest of lowbrow! What's a girl to do? Thank God for DVRs!

I tuned in for Persuasion, but since we have no cable and live a few blocks from Lake Michigan, our airwave reception is crappy. I'm going to have to find yet another pirate copy online... oh wait, YouTube has one. I loves me some YouTube. Thanks for stopping by!

I programmed the DVR for Persuasion (I was busy freaking out that I had no lesson plans for Monday).

What about Flavor of Love?? LOL

Carrie--I'm impressed that you have no cable. Thanks for stopping by.

Kate D.--Did you watch it yet? What did you think? (Goes for everybody) There were things I liked and things that were "Meh." How evil was her family (Giles Alert!) But "meh" Austen is still better than most of what's on tv.

katie babs--I think they're giving it a third go. I can't watch it all that often, but I love Flav. Public Enemy is from LI and I used to love them back in the day.

Did anyone watch Rock of Love? What a bunch of hags. He sent home the most naturally attractive girl. It was creepy, and a cautionary tale for parents everywhere. The only thing grosser was the Scott Baio is 46 and Pregnant show. Man, I loathe him. I refuse to watch it again.

Anthony Head played such a snob and a fop!! He was so different from his Giles days!

I am still a big fan of the 1995 version of Persuasion, but the last 10 minutes as Anne is running all over Bath and when Frederick smiles and than gives her his wedding present was so beautiful! I loved the ending so much. Can't wait for this Sunday and more Austen. Woot!

I thought she seemed a lot sadder than in the 95 version, but interestingly looking and well suited to the role. Giles and Co. made the family really awful, which really made me cheer for Ann.

I was laughing while she was running about, and I thought she was going to pass out when they went in for that first kiss. Am I awful? I loved the ending with the present.

I'm in the same boat as Carrie, no reception, and I hate the idea of paying for cable just to get network! But it's times like this, arrgh! A Jane Austen-a-thon! I should've stayed in my ignorant bliss of this.

my roommate watches that awful "reality" show I love New York. which I think was a spin off of Flavor of Love. I walk by the TV and point and laugh.

Thought the new version of Persuasion was alright. A bit short and hurried, methinks. I must admit, I quite fancied Captain Wentworth. Is that shallow?

oh yeah, carrie, CJ...the DVR is set up to record all these Austen thingies and a VCR is connected to the DVR (so many acronymns) so if you just can't go without, drop me an email and I will work something out. does anyone use VHS anymore? *g*

Wentworth was dishy, but I found him a bit wooden. They had good chemistry though. Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root looked a bit old I think.

Ohmigod I love New York is painful to watch. She is painful.l
