I love this song!
Okay, amusing myself. I haven't actually seen this video in years. As I was watching it, these thoughts ran through my head. Perhaps yours too...I wrote some of them down.
It's Bob Geldof! The man, the myth!...Who's that guy? Oh it's Paul Young. He sang "Every time you go away, you take a piece of meat with you" (as my sister liked to sing it)...Sing it, Boy George!...Why did Phil Collins get stuck playing the drums?....George Michael, back when we thought he was straight...then again, eighties hair and fashion made everyone look gay...Why so unhappy, Sting? Don't want to feed the World?...Sing it Bono!!...Hmmm, lots of people I don't recognize...More Paul Young (he must've been more popular in the UK, he carried this song)...Lots more do-gooding British musicians I don't recognize...Bananarama was awesome...Sting still looks uncomfortable and unhappy...maybe b/c someone's smoking, how rude...I think it's Jody Whatley...heh, one of the other guys from Culture Club...Ok, who the heck is that guy?...and fade.
First snow of the winter. Reading and blogging ahoy!

Rockin' the mullet for the good of the world.
By all that is holy, I was in college when this came out, and I never, ever dressed that way. Ever. Blech.
Sadly I was a teen and I did dress that way. Of course, I have no clue who the first guy is. Off to look up the man, the myth ;)
They did a great job with this song because I still love it!
CindyS
How about shoulder pads? EVERYTHING had shoulder pads. I can remember trying to cut them out and ending up with holes in the seams.
I think this song remains perenially awesome b/c they only break it out at this time of year. No overkill.
I had this awesome dress with shoulderpads, a dickie, and a peplum! Now THAT was a dress. But no teased burnt hair claw and no spandex and day glo.
Long Island had to be the home of the biggest bangs ever. Gale force winds couldn't have moved those things.
Luckily I grew up in a preppy town and so escaped the pressure.
Last week I was at Target, and I literally stopped in my tracks when I saw a woman sporting the biggest set of bangs I've seen in years. Huge ! And incredibly outdated.
I LOVE THIS SONG!
I love it too!
You didn't recognise Simon LeBon?
Shame on you! (lol!)
Was Simon LeBon that guy at the end? I thought I recognized him earlier in the video. I am admittedly a new wave geek, but I love Duran Duran. At the time, I could not understand why the older girls were so wacky over them though.
